Pretty good even shorter trip. Mary Beth and I left for Nashville yesterday. Got in and ate awesome hamburgers and fries at this shack, Riverside Grillshack. That was followed by the always incredible ice cream of Jeni's. Then, of course, the trip to Grimey's. First at part Too (the used stuff) I picked up: Uzeda: Stella, Excepter: Presidence, David Grubbs: Rickets & Scurvy, Merzbow: Tumeric (4 damn discs, hell yeah!), Negativland: Dispepsi, and Tar: Clincher. Then over next door at the regular store I got: Pauline Oliveros: The Wanderer, Conrad Schnitzler & Pyrolator: Con-Struct, Chrome: The Visitation, Coil: Backwards, and Shellac: Dude Incredible. While checking out the dude commented on my Pauline Oliveros find so I mentioned the box set and how awesome it is and he hadn't heard of it so maybe I spread the word (though maybe he'll check it out and hate it if all he's listened to is the accordion stuff, maybe it's similar, I dunno, haven't heard much of her accordion stuff myself outside of seeing her play live). After that we killed some time at Two Bits. I played a little Qix and Mary Beth and I played around with some goofy card games. Then off to the show! The opener was Nicole Dollangager. Mary Beth did not like my assessment that she sounded like Cranes covering 80s Metallica power ballads. And I didn't think she was bad (some of the guitar was a little cheesy and I wasn't into the Type O Negative cover, but there were thing I liked about it especially what reminded me of Cranes, the singing and some of the minimal drumming ((by the guitarist while he played, hitting the hi-hat with his headstock)) and I don't even hate 80s Metallica for the most part. Mary Beth was into the lyrics, though I can almost never make out the words to anything the first time I hear it). The show was pretty packed. We started out towards the front in the middle, but we moved towards the front to the far side (Mary Beth had a better view and we were less crammed in by people, though as Grimes started it packed in a little more over there too). Grimes was good. It was cool watching her run around, singing, going to the front, the going back to the machinery to change something. There were three dancers (one of which was a backup singer who I'm not sure if we could hear) and Grimes handled all of the musical stuff herself. Mostly sequencing and dropping stuff in and out, though occasionally she did a melody on one of the synths. I guess my favorites are the big hits so she naturally did those and I liked it ("Oblivion" and "Genesis" hey I just like those songs a lot). Oh yeah, and picked up one of her t-shirts yo. Afterwards we went back to Two Bits for just a bit more. Then the hotel. Then sleep. Then awake. Then to Pancake Pantry for breakfast: delicious pancakes and hashbrowns! Drive home was uneventful. Came back to some cats who are definitely sick of our shit. Well, hey cats, we'll be home for a while now! Watched a little of Aziz Ansari's new show Master of None. Okay, that wraps up our trip shit for a while anyway!
