This morning Mary Beth and I met Dustin and Courtney and Daphne at India Palace for an early lunch. Then we moved over to a notorious coffee chain. More good times talking and eating and beveraging and stuff. I neglected to mention the kolaches in West, TX. On our way back home, we stopped off in West for some apparently famed kolaches (Czech pastry). There were a couple places right along the interstate attached to gas stations, but we found a place a few blocks in and the kolaches were pretty great. The dough is so soft and pillowy. Also, a few more random stray notes about the trip. Small bridges spanning the hope of water. The games we played in eastern Colorado: it started as "cattle or shrub?" and turned into "clouds or mountains?". The answer was always cattle and then clouds. (I knew they were mountains when I finally saw them 30+ miles outside Denver and Mary Beth was asleep so there was no more game anyway.) How crazy the wind was in Wyoming (and a bit in Idaho and then most everywhere else). The hotel bar in Denver I had previously mentioned, the art deco one. They had an old jukebox and whenever a song would start and end there was a loud burst of static from the needle. That was my favorite thing about the place. I'll add any more stray remarks if I think of any more.
