didn't really do much last night...just stayed in with my wife...she made meaty squash and i went to rite aid and bought crappy masks...that is how we celebrated the evening of everything hallowed...or something...and i guess last night i did something really scary! i downloaded my first mp3, for my own personal listening pleasure and in a semi-purchasing fashion...i had a $1 mp3 credit on amazon so i wanted to get one song i would in no other fashion own in any form it is normally released, and i got the PERFECT song for that: "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins...GREAT SONG! fucking great song! a shame that EVERYTHING else that man did is about the worst kind of steaming turd possible...how is it that such a crappy recording artist managed to make only one song that's not just alright or not so bad but actually really great is pretty bizarre...the one concentrated point where the few songs he played on those three Eno records rubbed off on him...a while back i'm thinking, well, it's his first album maybe there's another awesome Eno-ish gem on there, i listened to sound samples from all the songs and sure enough they're the kind of shit that sounds just like the rest of his reprehensible solo career...but now i have used mp3 downloading successfully, its greatest use, and i listened to "In the Air Tonight" a bunch of times in a row...it was pretty great...oh, and the end is ever better than i'd previously thought, now that i have the luxury of paying close attention...i almost had a scare this morning...Mary Beth's alarm went off, and it's always set later than mine, really at that moment when it'd be the last moment for me to get ready for work in a hurry...and i'm thinking i didn't hear my alarm go off and that's strage and i'm hurrying and all...my alarm goes off while i'm in the shower...oh, yeah, daylight savings, mine phone updated itself and hers didn't...so now i have extra time anyway! (fascinating anecdote, that...)

sorry married life is so boring! my initial plan would've been more fun...the idea was to enjoy looking at stupid plastic halloween crap together, not so much the finished product. i know it's a little breakfast at tiffany's but yeah.

and i really do regret not doing cute costumes this year, but i also know exactly why that was so--the month prior was a freaking zoo--so i don't feel TOO bad.

maybe we can have fun tonight. day of the dead stuff. hm.

it wasn't boring! i didn't say it was boring...it was nice...and i know what you mean about the plastic crap, but the shelves were pretty empty and i felt lucky to even find what i did! okay, my pants still aren't on and it's almost time for work! i think i was gonna say something else but no time!

It's weird. A long, abysmal career with one good song.

Three, if you count "Sussudio" and "No Son of Mine." I don't! But they're funny!

man, i don't know if there's something wrong with me because i don't think it's just a good song but a fucking great song and i'm obsessed with it...i feel maybe i like it more than one should, but it can't be helped...the drums at the end are one of the best things ever...

No, I agree. It's a spectacular song and an anomaly in his solo career. Weird thing is, PC is supposed to have aped the drum sound on that song (maybe the whole record) from The Flowers of Romance. I can't remember where I heard that!

yeah, but even a song only marginally bad would be an anomaly in his solo career! i just figured every sound in it came as the sole outlet from what osmosis worked on him from playing with Eno...actually, i'm just looking it up and Nick Launay was the recording engineer on both albums...i see where Lydon made the claim they copied PIL for "In the Air Tonight" not that he's the most accurate word on such things...but seeing that the same dude recorded both, i guess that makes sense now (not that anything else on Face Value is remotely not shit that sounds like the rest of his shitty career...)
