i hung out with Justin again yesterday...he had rented some movie i'd never heard of called Stranger than Fiction...it blew...it was trying to be postmodern, but it was really just a cheesy hollywood movie by-the-numbers with the main character guy meeting a girl who is seemlingly not like him at all but gee she's attractive so obviously they're going to end up falling in love (would it spoil it if i told you that they actually DO?) and then there's this foreboding of the main character's imminent death but gee since he's the main guy and we like him he can't actually die can he? he'll surely figure a way out of it, right? well, gee he does! that whole thing with some "interesting/refreshingly different" postmodern elements sprinkled on top...it kind of pissed me off...the whole trying to masquerade as something different...more "intelligent"...but it's just a standard predictable movie just like any other fucking movie...anyway, i also went out to eat with his family...work today...new supervisors...new place to seat...hopefully i can keep the seat i was at today...if not i will be pissed the fuck off...came home and finished reading Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller...

The wife and I rather liked it. The storyline was just extending dei ex machina as paranoiac plot surrogate. Of course the guy gets shielded, he's the metafictive, self-aware schnook. We always get the girl and make it out alive, somehow.
Pomo or not, all the writers want to be a low budget Charlie Kaufmann these days. Unless they're trying to be PKD or Borges, which is still a better hollywood shitegeist than you tend to get with mindless flashy blockbusters.

Plus, i like Spoon. It worked for me. Not that you asked...

What have you seen lately that you did like?

eh, it just pissed me off that it was trying to put up this superficial act of being interesting or different when it's just the same old give the view what they want and expect crap...i dunno, in some ways it's better when a movie is pandering to admit it's just pandering schlock and to accept it and be comfortable in its badness...however, speaking of movies and PKD have you seen the previews for the new butchering? Next ("based on" "The Golden Man")...THAT looks BAD...

i don't actually watch movies very often...i did see Grindhouse several weeks ago and that was pretty sweet...

oh, and what's this about Spoon? did they do the soundtrack or something? i'm not familiar with them...(but i didn't like the soundtrack at all, so...well...there was one good Jam song...)
