today had a stop at borders on the way to see my parents...i picked up The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon and Wonderful Wonderful Times by Elfriede Jelinek...then at my parents' and i saw the dogs and stuff...i hadn't been by in a month so that was nice...my dad took me out to eat too...then later in the eveing was Paul's birthday at Wang's...which was swell, then we gathered and hung out for a bit at Paul and Katie's place where there were a bunch of dogs...dogs are rad...uh, the end...

I just finished The Piano Teacher by Jelinek. Honestly, I wasn't impressed, but the problem might have been with the translation.

i still haven't really read anything by her yet...i came across her after a discussion about how few female writers we (the people discussing) read...the realization made me feel unwittingly sexist or something...so i went on a (brief) search for some more female writers...not knowing where else to start i looked up the nobel laureates feeling there was at least one bound to be good there...read up a little on her and she seemed at least in the ballpark of something i might like...so eventually i got a book of hers...some months from now i'll probably get around to reading it...
