The Family Ghost show #13
Aug. 8th, 2005 09:15 pmit was not one of our best attended shows...if you took away the other bands it was possibly our worst...but i guess our playing was pretty alright...there was some old blues dude playing when we got there, but he was the good kind of blues anyway...it was pretty decent, the other bands seemed to think it was the best thing they'd ever heard (maybe it was...certainly better than their music...oh, ahem...i mean, uh...yeah...) The Buccaneer's a pretty cool-lookin' place...the "stage" has a fireplace behind it...there's also a giant painting on the wall right next to where we played that has a pirate about to get it on with a mermaid...sweet stuff...and i guess since it's just a regular floor we had a lot of "stage" room which is nice for our plethora of pedals and other junk...anyway, our sent went as such:

we were so good the other bands didn't even stay inside to listen/watch us...they later said they could hear us outisde...which is true...you can hear bands that are playing outside, but you can hear yourself talking much, much better...but that's okay...this one old dude talked to Jacques afterwards and i didn't hear with my own ears, but he told Jacques something along the lines of us being "the sound of violence" and that we were really great and we were what rock'n'roll is all about...normally i like to distance myself from "rock'n'roll" as far as reasonable, but i get where he's coming from and it's one of my personal favorite compliments we've gotten (you know, i have so many to choose from and all...) especially the "sound of violence" part...i wonder how "The Yellow Light" factors into that...i guess the end of "Placeholder" made him forget all our wussier moments (including the first half of that song...) afterwards half the band ditched out of the rest of the show and went home...i helped load gear and had 'em bring me back...Braille (i missed much of their set) were just like the mp3's i'd heard...kinda alright...terrible emo vocals...i sat outside for most of their set...Those Transatlantics were just like the mp3's i'd heard as well: wretchedly horrible...they sound like The Beatles and while i didn't hear any of the lyrics i suspect most of them are about sunshine...afterwards they seemed distraught by their set because they weren't "tight" or something...i didn't notice any of that...i just thought that had crappy songs as is generally expected of any band knocking off The Beatles...it seems like i should have something else to say about the show...i probaby don't though...
got to bed late and worked today and was tired but not as bad as i expected...it was actually a decent day at work and i read a nice amount and it was nice! i called back the Hi-Tone about that show next month of course that day did in fact end up being booked by something else...then i mentioned how The Family Ghost would be up for playing any other time they might have an opening and he just said "okay...thanks..." end of conversation...nice...nice...nice...
