i'm taken aback...
Jan. 23rd, 2005 07:35 pmyesterday was pretty awesome...Jacques came over and we worked on filling in the gaps in "Taken"...first we redid his guitar on the loud chorded parts, doubling it up where it was cutting out just a little bit on the original take to smooth it out (which it did)...next, we added extra guitar on the first loud part, before the vocals...using my small practice amp and playing along, adding a shrill, trebley bit of noise coating it all just a little bit...then we each made a noisy loop to go along with the loud parts (as i've "taken" to doing live anyway...) NOW for the super-super-super cool thing: for the extended, noisy ending (the rest of the song after the vocals finish) we did the coolest damned thing ever...Jacques had the headphones and he could hear what was going on and he was changing station on my radio searching for snippets of dialogue, etc...this was going out to a nice array of my pedals, which i was manipulating not really hearing what was going on...i could hear a little from the headphones Jacques was wearing but that's it...and as i just said, it was the coolest goddamnned thing ever...now that part of the song sounds a good bit like Chrome and Cabaret Voltaire...the song's just so amazing now...the end could just knock you over it's so fucking powerful (i know that sounds cheesy as hell, especially when talking about my own music...but it's the truth...it's a mother...) after that was over we watched a little Monty Python and then Amanda came over...we sat around for a while boring Amanda to death (i was kind of exhausted from the day's work and was kind of half out of it anyway...) but we finally got off our asses and went to Huey's for eating...then back to Jacques' where we watched something...but i didn't feel coherent enough to focus on a movie without passing out so i played Zoo Keeper on my DS (which i brought over like the dork i am...) i'm sort of addicted to this game anyway...it's one of the coolest damned puzzle games i've ever played (and puzzle games is the most consistently great genre ever...) today The Family Ghost as a whole got together...we played Josh and Brad yesterday's work and they seemed pleased with it as well...but we got to work on recording "Phantom Limb"...we got pretty close to getting it sounding right...the way the drums sound fucking blows me away...and i got 'em set up really quickly too...i guess that's something i'm getting the hang of at least...the bass sounds really good...the guitars need a little work...but they're getting closer...we had a big bit of trouble with humming on both my and Jacques' amps...it started on my amp and then moved to Jacques'...but i guess we worked our ways around that okay...there are still some issues with the sound but i think we're almost there...and i guess that's what i've been up to...yeah...
Hold on there, cowboy...
