Big Date Day
Oct. 7th, 2023 09:32 amHad a very action-packed day yesterday for my day off! (It was the first of six consecutive Fridays I've taken off to use up that vacation time this year. Then there's one more non-consecutive Friday a little later, but I digress.) Okay, so first was a last minute errand as my dad messaged me the night before asking if I could take mom to dialysis in the morning. So I got up and drove out to pick her up and took her and that mostly went on schedule but then about five minutes after I'd dropped her off she called me because we forgot her bag in my car so I turned around and brought that back.
Okay, so now on to the reason for the vacation day: my date with Mary Beth! I came back home and picked her up and we went and had lunch at Edge Alley. It was very delicious. I had a lychee black tea that was very good (did the honey I mixed in do all the heavy lifting though?). I had a breakfast plate and it was all good but the eggs were just of an outstanding quality.
After that we went downtown and visited the Belz Museum. Hadn't been in a long while (not in the actual museum itself since around when we got married!). It's always nice there, we hope to remember to go there more often! Then we took just a little jaunt away over to Martyrs Park on the river. It's a small park near the Big River Crossing and it's on a little path that connects a few other parks (down to Tom Lee Park) and we walked that and enjoyed the weather and then came back. Being thirsty, on the way home we picked up some of those big ass, thirst quenching drinks from Sonic.
Then back at home Mary Beth was making something and found our cucumbers had rotten so we made a quick trip over to Fresh Market to get some more and we picked up a small dinner of those sushi things. I've quickly learned that I like the crab inari and always get that. As we were checking out, the guy doing so asked if there were any more left and I was able to let him know there was one more. He gets it too, yeah.
Then at night, while we're hanging out and talking in bed just a little before going to sleep, we start hearing some meowing. And it sounds close, like it's in the house. I figured it was probably coming from the basement. For the past couple weeks, we've had people painting the outside of our buildings and doing other similar kind of work and I've noticed they often leave the basement door wide open for long stretches of time while they worked. I figured a cat could have gotten in through the door while they were working and then trapped inside after they'd left and closed the door (and I also figured the odds could be pretty high that such a cat in question would be Peanut). So I went down with a flashlight and checked, calling for a kitty and looking all around but I didn't see or hear anything for a little bit. Then after checking every little corner, I heard a meow. And then I saw Peanut coming towards me up in the crawlspace. It was a bit of a high drop down from the crawlspace to the floor (though nothing a cat couldn't handle, but just enough to require a little bit of cat concentration) so I encouraged her down and backed out of the basement to show her the way. After she gathered her mettle and jumped down, she then bolted up the stairs and out the door. So not knowing how long she'd been trapped in there we gave her some food and hopefully that little Peanut lady was doing okay!
