Our big activity for yesterday was going to the opera at night. It was Opera Memphis's opening event at their new location that's right around the corner from us (I like the building it's in a lot too). It's a smaller building, this wasn't a full on production, but just a little sampler of different songs around a theme: nominally A Midsummer Night's Dream (to tie in with the ballet production of it next week) but also kinda just Shakespeare in general. So there were some short pieces from various operas along with other more popular styles of music. My stomach started feeling a bit, uh, funky in middle of it. Luckily I was able to hold off until it was all over and we were back home. But then back home I did not have a pleasant time of it. At one point at night, Mary Beth and I stepped outside on the deck and eventually Peanut came trotting over from the far end of the other apartments, carrying a mouse. Then we got to watch her repeatedly letting it go and hunting it. It was a bit disturbing that we kept hearing the mouse squeak. I'm not sure if Peanut wanted to show off for us or even thank us for rescuing her the night before with a gift (we didn't stick around long enough to see if she'd try to bring it all the way to us). That also reminds me of an unusual sighting out on our back deck the night before, we saw a possum walking across one of the power lines (just like the squirrels always do, but it wasn't a squirrel!). Don't think I've ever actually seen a possum in the wild back there (the occasional raccoon, yes). Oh yeah, and I almost forgot that earlier in the day I wasted some time by making this dumb s-p-o-o-k-y themed listchallenge.
