Jul. 3rd, 2021 09:17 amYesterday was pretty much a half day for the Friday before the holiday. So I got off work and picked up some Fino's for Mary Beth and I and we had a tasty lunch. Then I finished reading Omensetter's Luck by William H. Gass. It was quite good. It was a bit different from what I'd expected, at least in part. Especially starting off, it has more of a straight High Modernist feel, a good bit reminiscent of Faulkner, instead of being more Post-Modernist. But as it progresses and especially as it gets to the meat of it in the large section in the middle, the person who becomes the central character has quite a lot of similarities with the narrator of The Tunnel and it gets into this stream-of-consciousness, and though that makes it seem like it'd be more Modernist, there's a devolving quality to it that gets into this feel of being more about deconstructing language itself. So I can see it as one of those transitional books that bridge Modernism and Post-Modernism. What else, got a couple cds in the mail: Pas Musique: Inside the Spectrum and Old Castle: Welcome to Graceland (the latter being a freebie tossed in, nice!). Had a lot of reading with Mary Beth last night and she finished two books she'd been reading out loud to me in parallel. First we finished The Collected Schizophrenias by Esmé Weijun Wang. Then later we finished Closer by Sarah Barmak. I had finished the videos and was uploading them to youtube throughout the day. I hit the daily limit though. I've got Friday and a couple into Saturday, should be finished by the weekend though.
