Memphis Concrète Live Stream Day 1

Well...the first day is under the belt. A lot of it went well, but some of it went terribly. Really everything was going beautifully smoothly, way better than I could have hoped for, up until we got to Tatras's set. We just couldn't get connected. And I was doing some soft reboots and such and I would get his video but no sound. Now things sometimes happen when if someone connects, disconnects, and reconnects something gets confused on my end and it either has trouble getting the video, audio, or both. I'd never had it struggle so unsuccessfully for so long. I was also seeing an encoding error in obs. The time of his set passed and we didn't get anywhere so his set was completely missed. I would have kept trying if I thought we could do something, but given the lack of progress I knew we couldn't keep spinning wheels indefinitely. So that really bummed me the fuck out. Disaster Trees was next and we started but I started having similar problems connecting to them. I was realizing it wasn't just my connection with him and then I went for the nuclear option of fully rebooting the actual machine itself. That seemed to fix it and they were able to connect and we were still able to continue. However, I did keep getting the encoding error. Then for Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel the video was super-choppy and the audio was cutting out a little bit. It wasn't terribly bad, but not as good as I'd hoped for. The encoding error continued throughout that. I think a problem is multiple reconnects. I'm changing things up today and will not open the server early for quick spot tests and will instruct everyone to not connect at all until I send the signal. I'm going to try to do a little more testing of some other scenarios, to simulate conditions of multiple reconnections or different connections. I know it's not just length of time because I recently streamed just fine for over ten hours, but it was all one connection so I need to see how things are affected with multiple connections. Anyway, we'll see. But yeah, before that everything was going very well and all the artists were amazing and the music was great and everyone in the chat seemed very happy with everything. Hopefully today goes better.

Work yesterday was fine, but I ended up getting pulled into a call at the end of the day that went on a little long and I was afraid it might end up eating into the little buffer of time I had planned on before things got underway, but it ended up being alright. I filled up a cooler with ice and Mexicokes and was ready to get wild! (And yeah, I drank three...woo.) I think that's it for now. Must stay positive. My testicle pain seemed to have subsided to almost nothing throughout yesterday. I felt it more after waking up this morning, but it's still not strong. We'll see how it goes, hopefully it keeps going down.
