Mary Beth and I had another lovely after-dinner walk and the weather was nice and slightly cool. Late at night we were out on the deck, looking at the lightning bugs in the mini-forest behind our house when we heard some horrible cat screaming sounds. We were wondering if that was cats having sex or cats fighting. Then shortly afterwards we saw what we thought was a cat (presumably Peanut) going around the stairs and walkways of the apartment complex next door (where the cats, Peanut and Ranger specifically) walk around all the time. It seemed to be moving a little weird and was going faster than usual and we thought maybe he was agitated after the fight or whatever. While there are lights by doors, it's mostly dark and shadowy over there. Finally we realize that it's a raccoon. Doesn't seem to be a good sign that it's moving around so much so close to people's doors. We were a little worried one of the cats may have gotten into a fight with this raccoon. So I went around in my car looking to see if I could find any signs of a cat in trouble, but I didn't see anything. Hopefully our neighborhood cats are good. I mean, they're outside all the time and I'd think they'd know their stuff.
