After my short afternoon of work, I took Trudy to the vet for her annual. Aside from covid weirdness of just going anywhere (which really wasn't that bad, just wearing a mask and it's pretty roomy in the waiting area), it was a pretty weird visit because power downtown had been going off and on and off much of the day. So when I first got there, the power had recently come back on and fluorescent lights were flickering. All their computer systems were still down. Then after waiting a little while the lights and a/c went off again. So things were naturally a little chaotic and a bit surreal. After waiting a while, they did Trudy's checkup but they had to go into some back room 'cuz the usual rooms weren't usable without power. So I wasn't able to be with her for it. Then just after leaving, when I realized I'd forgotten her prescription, I stopped short to turn around and her cage tipped over a little bit (not all the way, just at an angle, but I felt bad about it). She's forgiving though and let me give her wet pets this morning. Then later in the day I finished reading Ahkenaten, Dweller in Truth by Naguib Mahfouz. It was pretty good. It does a bit of a Rashomon thing (or an "In a Grove" thing if you're taking the literary track) where it retells the story for each chapter from a different character's perspective. I got a little stomach sick last night but I think I'm feeling better this morning. Today's an obnoxious day to poke in on social media. Never forget the effects of jingoism.
