Laborious Tasks
Sep. 3rd, 2019 05:22 pmI was pretty productive yesterday. Finally got around to assembling those Ikea couches (couch and a half) we got as Christmas presents! One did come much later as the original one we were going to get kept on being out of stock until we finally picked another one, but it has been a WHILE. We were going to hire someone to assemble them, but they've been sitting a while and I had a nice big extra day so I went ahead and just did it. The assembly actually wasn't too bad. It took a few hours but the instructions were mostly pretty straightforward and clear. I was prepared for worse given the stories you hear about Ikea shit (though I guess it's other types of furniture, not so much couches). So then the worse part was the cleanup. Mary Beth helped me take the old couches to the curb, but we went out the front door and it's just a little narrower than regular doors and it was a huge pain getting the big couch out as we were at the last leg and it was needing just a centimeter or whatever. Eventually stumbled on the magical geometric configuration, moving the couch up in all kinds of angles 'til we got it out. Then there was so much fucking cardboard. So fucking much! I broke down the plethora of boxes and it was still hard to figure out what to do with all that fucking cardboard. My arms were sore from tearing it up. I was sure they'd be sore today but they're not. I should have known it'd be my legs which were NOT sore yesterday (but that's how fuckin' doms works!). It was probably from all the up and down and back and forth getting the couches out. But I can barely walk today, damn. But we have nice new couches (and a relatively cleared out living room without the massive boxes taking up half of it!). We inaugurated it by watching The Color of Pomegranates which was pretty damn spectacular. Then it was back to work today. Just a day where things that didn't seem like they should take long ended up taking all day. Oh, I forgot to mention something from Sunday. Our new neighbors were out of town and had asked us to drop in and check on their cats. So we did and we got to hang out with a few cats. We saw two out of the three. One is very friendly and playful (the black one, forget the name). The other is curious and likes to hover around ya but doesn't get too close (this is the grey one, its name is something like Smokey but not...Ash? Soot? I should remember...but don't...). The other other one we didn't even see (like Trudy for Jacques much of the time). Anyway, cats, yeah!
