So I tried a can of the New Coke yesterday! So here is some soda analysis for ya! It does taste like a cross between Coke and Pepsi, but there is definitely some essence of Coke still there. It wasn't as cloyingly sweet as I was expecting. At first it almost seems a little less sweet, and there's an interesting and kind of unique flavor. There is a brighter sweetness sort of at the edges though. As you drink it, that sweetness starts to take over the other flavor. The nice sharp acidic bite that Coke has and has sort of mastered among sodas and is one of the reasons why it's the best, it gets muted. It's sort of like it starts to get there but it's like a cymbal was crashed and immediately dampened. There's this very noticeable muted decay. And the more you drink it, the more that muteness takes over the palate. Overall, not a bad soda. Definitely less good than the Coke it tried to replace. But it has its own interesting qualities. The aftertaste though, it just kept going and it was very metallic and tasted kind of bad, that was the only absolute negative, the long-lingering aftertaste. Okay, three cheers for sommolier-like soda analysis! The other thing I did yesterday was go out to see a screening of Lights Camera Bullshit. The main reason I went was 'cuz it was at MCA and I'd never been in that marvelous, gorgeous building and who knows what's going to happen to it when MCA shuts down soon. The movie wasn't good. I mean, there were elements that could be good I guess but everything was kind of forced. In the middle the blu ray player was fucking up and they had to switch it out. I dunno, just a detail. Now it's the morning and it's Mary Beth's birthday! Time to hang out with my lovely lovely wife!
