ateolf: (synth & boobs)
Spent the day yesterday working on the song I was recording: a cover of "Rid of Me" by PJ Harvey. Would have been a surprise birthday present for Mary Beth, but I wasn't able to keep her from hearing my singing so the cat was out of the bag! Well I finished it and was able to mix it and even send it to her as an early present. Had fun doing it. It's the first song I've multitracked like that since I killed my Tascam. Well as I said in my last post, my usb interface has way too much latency so I had to rig up a dumb system where I'm listening to my laptop but recording onto my handheld recorder and then transferring it back over later. Not ideal but I got the job done. The monitoring sounds got really weird and messed up so I'm not sure what's up with that. I mean, it worked good enough to where I could hear stuff but it was trebly and hot-sounding and some of the tracks sounded way louder and I'd have to adjust 'em listening back. Blah blah. I'm kinda droning on here. The drums I did kinda sound like real drums, but the bass is just a synth module and the snare, well, I did sample it but I degraded the sample and was triggering back through my eurorack (the degradation of the sample isn't so apparent in the mix though as it's in the loud part). What else? Worked today and all that. Came home to a cd I'd ordered: Matmos: California Rhinoplasty EP. Earlier today I'd finally dredged up the recording of my first solo performance (at the first Memphis Concrète in 2017) and uploaded it somewhere instead of letting it just fester on my old work laptop. And speaking of which,
