Mary Beth wanted to watch the movie version of Sense and Sensibility since I'd just read the book so we did. It was interesting having read it so fresh, being able to compare the differences. In a lot of ways it's pretty faithful. They shift some things around (mostly minor, one kinda major) and drop a few characters. Most of the dialogue, I think (or at least a good bit), is taken straight from the book. But the tone is where its biggest difference is. The book has humor, but it's of the subtle wit variety. The movie's a lot more lighthearted in tone and sometimes the humor takes a more silly bent. I guess it was trying to fit more into the mold of romcom. I got in and moved to my new desk at work this morning. It's not very far from where I was. It's in a more open area (my previous seat wasn't closed in, but kind've in a little pseudo-corridor that was kinda nice). We were also in the area closest to the bathroom and kitchen area. So I don't quite have that going for me, but I'm really not that much farther away. I have more atrium "access" (view to the giant curved window looking into the atrium). Also at work there was kind of an annoying production issue. It wasn't quite full-blown issue. Volume increased, I guess Terminix's business skews towards the beginning of the month. A query in our api was spiking cpu usage in mongo pretty bad. It was indexed and all, it's just the volume was pretty massive. Nothing was crashing as of yet, there was some slowness. I came up with an optimization on the query that should help. We'll see. We're shooting to get it out in Tuesday's release if nothing falls apart on Monday. Came home and had a couple little things in the mail. Mainly: Sun Ra: Astro Black (excited about this 'cuz I've dreamed about having this album for years but it was never released on cd...then Modern Harmonic releases it this year...but as a limited record store day thing! so I was thankfully able to finally find it at a decent price). Secondly (but still pretty cool): some cassette splicing tape (for a musical project I'm planning...!).
