Science Fiction & Fantasy

Had a pretty action-packed day yesterday. After the relatively active morning that was detailed in my last post, I got packed up for my show. Set up in the back room of Two Rivers. I think the show went pretty well. There was actually a pretty good crowd. And people I didn't know at all showed up, people who saw it in mentioned in the flyer. Ryan did the reading. The crowd was thoroughly entertained by the book (I mean, it is really fucking awful). A few in the audience were a little overly entertained and were a little obnoxious (though to be fair, they were so before and after the show too). I'd meant to record it like I do all my shows, but I forgot the recorder! It's probably okay, I don't think my performance was the most inspired. I mean, it wasn't awful. But I mostly just did the safe three or four things for an hour. Dropped Mary Beth and my gear off and home and came right back for another show that was afterwards. Mike Doughty was playing with his Moticos project. It unsurprisingly had a heavy 90s coffee house vibe to it. Nonconnah was after that, just Zachary and Denny playing. They were quite good as usual. It was Denny's last regular show performing. All this ended relatively early and I was home before daylight. Not too much later we went to the drive in. It was the sort of 80s fantasy themed night. The weather was absolutely perfect. Though it'd been a bit hot in the day (with rain here and there), towards evening it had started to cool down and by night it was absolutely gorgeously cool weather. Perfect drive in weather. We came a little bit late. The Princess Bride was the first movie and it had already started when we got there. We started off parked next to the loudest damn people so were lucky to end up moving up after a little bit. We watched The Secret of NIMH and The Last Unicorn. I hadn't seen The Secret of NIMH since I was a kid. I really didn't even remember much about it, just impressions (many of which were I'd remembered wrong). I'd never seen The Last Unicorn and uh, what a weird movie, and not like straight-up weird-weird but so many things in it just feel off. I should probably have to watch it again to get a sense of an opinion on it when I'm not deep into the night and tired. But I think I enjoyed it. There was one more movie but wee left after that (I'd been under on sleep anyway). Thankfully I actually got to sleep in today. Feels like it almost never gets to happen. So hoorah for that.
