Turning Off the House
Mar. 10th, 2018 08:42 amWent to a house show with Jacques last night. The first act was called Dill& and it was a guy doing mumble whiny 80s/90s r&b-ish music and it was really awful (along with many shouts of "sadboi" from the audience). Next was a band I'd never heard of before (but they're very new) and that was quite good called Late Night Cardigan. They did kinda janglyish indie rock (Kinda loosely reminded me of something somewhere between Mineral, Team Dresch, and The Smiths and maybe very loosely Young Marble Giants). After that was Starfighter Yellow Superoverdrive and they were awesome as usual. This time Jessie played bass and it was very heavy and sludgy. They had a fog machine and a little into their set it set off the smoke detector. I thought the beeping went well with the music. Last was The Switchblade Kid and they were good thought it feels like over the years what postpunk elements they had are slowly shedding towards a more straightforward punk rock sound. They broke a circuit during their set and the power in half of the house went out. They ended up continuing by getting extension cords into the adjacent hallway where there was power and continuing on (albeit with the room still in the dark). It was a fun show and mostly really good music.
