Last night Mary Beth and I went to see Shen Yun at the Cannon Center downtown. My parents had given us tickets for Christmas. It was mostly classical Chinese dancing accompanied by a Western orchestra (with a few Chinese instruments mixed in). Some of it was pretty interesting but there was a bit of a weird religious propaganda vibe throughout. The announcers were kinda weird in that stiff awards show from the 50s vibe. They also had this full stage projection on the back wall with digital imagery that was mostly pretty cheesy. Sometimes they used a trick of these stairs to jump behind or climb out of to give the illusion of jumping into the projection or coming out of it or interact with the background in other ways. But it was interesting to try out. Then more work today. Not too much. Mostly have the rough draft of the thing I'm working on drawn out. Just going back and refactoring it to use promises (this is node/javascript). I haven't used promises much and while the concept is pretty basic, I'm still a little rough on the syntax. But I'm getting it down and we'll see how it goes. I forgot to mention in my last post that I finished reading Recollections of the Golden Triangle by Alain Robbe-Grillet. It was good. Now I just need to figure out what the hell happened.
