Had a pretty full Indie Memphis day yesterday. Started right in the early afternoon. The first thing was the Departures Shorts (the experimental shorts block). Saw some really good stuff in there (and a few pieces with some nice electronic music that I'll hopefully be able to track down later). All my movies were nearly back-to-back so it was just straight through. Next was Super Dark Times. The title describes the tone. It's about some kids in the early/mid nineties and an accident and secrets and coming of age and violence. It was good. Next was called Maya Darden about an aging poet who wants to kill herself and find a young male poet to be her executor and heir. It was also good and preceded by a short called Midwinter that was really good too. Last was the Hometowner After Dark Shorts. So it's local shorts that are generally "adult" themed (most often horror or something else violent, but then there was one that was satire and had a weiner in it). That movie was Art Martyrdom and I actually had a very brief appearance as an extra with Mary Beth. I remember one day (Joey, I think) at an art gallery asking if he could film us for a second for the background of some movie. So there it was. I'm wearing my "Oh! Oh! You have been sloimed by Ghost Buster" shirt. So yeah, I'm in a movie "costarring" someone from Nots, yeah I'm cool. (Okay, I'm overstating things now, but yeah someone from Nots is one of the main characters). Then was H.I.D. which was the movie that The Family Ghost scored. I know I've expressed doubts about it and talked some mild shit about the movie but it was actually one of the better ones in that block (but a lot of 'em were kinda bad but there were a couple good ones). It was neat hearing our music on a big screen (or speakers while other images were on the screen). Chad still miscredited Jacques as the composer. Well, then there was work today. Went out to lunch for my scrummaster Brooke's birthday (which was like two damn weeks ago, but whatever, Brooke!). We were going to go to Curry Bowl but there was a sign saying they were closed just for this Monday. Nice. Luckily there was another Indian buffet just down the street called Kongunad. Never been there before but it was good stuff. Maybe not as famously good as Curry Bowl but it was still a worthwhile lunch endeavor. Now it's dark by the time I drive home and that's lame. Boring anecdote I forgot to mention in my last post. So I saw Suspiria the other night, and I walked home so Ballet Memphis is right there now so I walked home from Suspiria late at night past Ballet Memphis. I mean, I know that's not much of anything but ballet. It was fun to think about for a minute anyway.
