Another day of Indie Memphis. I didn't really get started til evening. Well, I went back to sleep in the afternoon as I didn't get enough overnight (and it was good since I had a late night ahead). Before going to watch a few movies, Mary Beth and I went out and picked up some food: Abyssenia for her and Five Guys for me. My stomach was still a little funky from the barbecue the day before. The greasy burger and fries probably wasn't the best addition to my stomach's current state either. Anyway, I walked over to the movie theater and watched Common Carrier first. It was good. Sort of a blend of documentary and narrative. The whole thing was done with two concurrent image tracks superimposed on each other. It was preceded by a short about some lizard guy that was pretty bad. I'd realized that after I rinsed off earlier in the day I'd forgotten to reapply deodorant so I was a little self-conscious about stinking by the end of the night so I made use of the time between movies to walk back home to apply some (and ended up needing to quickly do, uh, something else). Then I'm ready to walk over to my next movie but I'm running behind so I jogged most of the way over. I got there right on time though drenched in sweat. The next movie was Most Beautiful Island. I heard that it was sold out. It was good and pretty creepy. Kinda funny in the similarity in plot to a story I JUST read (by Mircea Cărtărescu) as they both involve seedy underground gambling rings where people bet on the chance of someone being killed. After that I waited around for the last movie, apparently there was a line formed outside and I was just waiting around inside the theater building. But I had no trouble getting in. The opening short was a terrible local jokey "horror" thing about vhs tape eating people. So yeah, saw Suspiria again this time the 4k restoration. It really was gorgeous. It was late and I was nodding off and on during the final climax. Okay, then I walked back home and slept and was thankful for the extra hour we gained today. I think today is my biggest day for movies. Well, I probably have four compared to yesterday's three. Okay.
