Another Giant
Oct. 16th, 2017 05:51 pmLast night was a show up at 831 S. Cooper (wish the place would have a real name that I could remember) for the first time (since it was Black Lodge anyway, back in the day, though it only closed back in 2015 weirdly enough). Anyway, wasn't sure what to think of the space beforehand but it seems pretty alright. The music was all really good. First was Quartz Prawl who are touring from somewhere. They're a two piece with a guy on drums and synth and a girl on sampler and percussion and vocals. They reminded me a little of This Heat with a good bit of free jazz elements. Next was Argiflex, hadn't seen her play since Memphis Concrète. Her set was a little more "vaporwave" as she called it, but super-far off, though yeah a little more mellow. Nonconnah were good as always. Giant Claw was last, also on tour and he was super good. Reminded me a good bit of later Oval or later Oneohtrix Point Never. He just had a drum pad thingie and had lots of complex arrangements of samples and sequences and it was impressive both to hear and watch. Anyway, woke up and went to work and was productive and a little tired and that's about it.
