Mary Beth and I went to this screening of this National Geographic documentary called Gender Revolution hosted by Out Memphis at First Congo. It's going to be airing on the teevee soon and NG sent a bunch of preview copies to groups around the country. It was set up as a sort of primer on gender and transgender issues for the general public who doesn't know anything about it. It had Katie Couric talking to a bunch of people and asking a lot of "dumb" questions and such, serving as a sort of conduit for the target audience to feel okay not knowing these things and learning while also subtly framing some dos/don'ts for them. I thought it was pretty good. We discussed it afterwards and there were some criticisms of how it did or didn't cover some topics, but overall for its purpose I thought it did a good job. A lot of people also said this is something they could show their parents and they'd be able to sit through it and maybe even understand, and that's the main point here. Okay, just did some groceries and there we are!
