Uh...

Wednesday night I had something of a playdate with Jacques. Went over to his house and hung out for a little while. He was doing his radio show (it was prerecorded, but he was in the chatroom to announce the song titles, etc). Mostly just sat around and talked. Pretty good time. Also finished reading A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf that night. Really really good book. The style was spectacular and I like the self-aware pseudo-narrative form it takes. Also, a lot of the ideas feel forward even today. Don't agree with the sentiment that writing that comes from anger is an inherently negative thing (but the main point behind that is it should be a possibility and not just a corner one is forced into). Yesterday, at work. Did anything of significance happen? I don't remember. I do remember. We had a deployment set to go out last night. Two in one week is pretty annoying, but pushed by the my account team. Okay, so Mafaz is off on his own looking at my code and finds a call I'm making to an older function (that I assumed to work), isActive(). Then he actually looks at it (whereas I went on the assumption it was something out there that just works, and it passed qa so that just solidified it), but he finds that the contents of this function are just "return false;". So yeah, the thing doesn't break but it will always do one thing, and not another thing it should do in some circumstances. Then it turns out that it was "tested" by a developer who only ran one scenario. Anyway, that was taken out of the deployment (but the other things still went out). So yeah I did that last night. Not bad, Mohit and I are on a flow now and they've been going pretty smoothly. Apparently the guy I picked (the first guy that had a second interview that I initially rejected) is friends with a couple people at work. Didn't even know so no favoritism shown. But I guess that's pretty good, they said some good things about him today. There was lunch at Central Barbecue (I'm still full!). Zach is going to Day for Night with us after all. That's pretty exciting. I left work early because of the deployment last night. Okay, there you have it! Oh! I just remembered a weird story I wanted to share. I had picked books for my santa thing santee on librarything on Monday. Yesterday I wake up to a message from another user about one of my choices. The santee had already bought and read the book (and didn't like it) though it's not in their catalog. Okay, good to know, but... They said they were a friend. Their account is completely empty. So it's like an account made just to look at the books picked. Since seeing the choices is blocked to the account that's getting the books (it's a surprise and all), could it be just the same person making a fake account to check on the books they're getting? I mean, it could be a friend, but it could be that same person. Anyway, a little weird. I guess it works out for them though.
