The show went pretty darn well last night. Ryan had a wake to attend and Paul doesn't get off work til 7 so it was just me and Jacques loading all the gear by ourselves. Surprisingly we were able to load all our gear in both our cars, which just barely fit and I was sure my keyboard stand was gonna topple over me. But it didn't. Jacques and I both ended up wearing our Nico shirts (both the cover of The Marble Index, though his is black and mine is brown). We met to load out at my place so I thought I could change into another shirt but then I was like, eh what the fuck I don't care and he didn't seem to care either so we went with it! Matching shirts.
Real Live Tigers were up first. This is our third show with "them." The first two were just with Tony (back at Murphy's so many years ago and then that house show at my place also so many years ago) so this was the first with something more of a band. They apparently started their tour as a full band with a drummer and everything (they're almost at the end, headed back to Austin now, maybe another date or two along the way) but at some point he ended up quitting due to person reasons, so they were just a two piece last night. Tony doing his usual guitar/vocals and a bass player. But they were really good, as usual.
Then we played of course and it was a pretty good set:
Lost Year
Death Blow
Visitant
Doctorate
Safety Corridor
I had my modular along to make some noise at the end of the last song (and at the end of the first song too incidentally). Ryan started "Visitant" before I was ready (even after saying a resounding "no" when asked if we were ready) so instead of droning, the Prophet was doing a weird fast arpeggio which probably sounded cool in its own way. It was hard to get it right when I was setting it up after the song had already started! But hey, the unique experience. We got a lot of positive feedback. Tony said it was the best set of ours he'd heard (though hey it has been a while). Alyssa said the same thing, which was nice. Jacques had a few of his newish coworkers out and they seemed into it. This was even confirmed because apparently one of my coworkers is friends with one of Jacques's coworkers and she was telling him about the show and how good it was not knowing that he knew someone else in the band (Zach came over to tell me about it today). I picked up a couple bits of vinyl from Real Live Tigers, a 12" and a 7". Don't have a working record player right now, but maybe that'll change sometime. All in all a pretty good night. Also, the other bands that were double booked ended up getting a show somewhere else so there weren't any issues. Also, that gave us the excuse to play an early show which was MUCH better!
Other than that... Got the results of my Criterion flash sale binge in the mail today: Death by Hanging, Pan's Labyrinth, The New World, The Complete Lady Snowblood, Muriel, or the Time of Return, and The Player.
