Lonesome Today
Sep. 18th, 2016 05:09 pmWent to Paul and Katie's place as Paul was having a birthday thingie. Matt and Emily were there who I hadn't seen in like years. Josh and Molly showed up and Josh lent me his soldering iron so I can finally but the module Dustin gave me for my birthday together. Josh my hire me for some freelance work. That'd be kinda cool. Something of his ended up going viral pretty recently and he's got like four companies to sign up to beta test his main product. Awesomeness.
One thing I forgot to mention about the drive-in was how it started raining in the middle of it. Not too bad at first, but after a bit it kept on and then it picked up. So we got in the car, turned it around sideways, rolled down the side windows, and watched the rest through the side. Think I'm starting to come down with a cold though. So I ended up last night with a stuffy nose, an upset stomach, a messed-up lip, and a sore shoulder (yeah, still not completely healed since flying back from Boston).
Today The Family Ghost was supposed to practice. Jacques ended up being sick and couldn't make it. Ryan was going to come but I guess he decided it wasn't worth it when Jacques cancelled. I ended up doing stuff alone. Jacques had suggested we loop the synth pad part on the "dubstep" song throughout the whole thing. That part has six chords and it's more complex than the rest of the song and I figured it wouldn't fit. But then I hit on the idea of just taking one chord and looping it and alternate it going forward and reverse so it's seamless. So I did that with the first two chords and put 'em in separate stereo channels. Boom, idea will probably work. I think it's about ready to mix down. I may add some effect-type synth to it. I also decided we should try the folk thing that we hadn't heard about. So I came up with a guitar part that I recorded that's pretty damn nice. I actually almost sound like a real guitar soloist. I also added a track of cumbus (for a banjo-like sound) but it wasn't as good and then I think I decided the guitar is good enough on its own.
Went to the first Memphis Forward meeting in a good while. Not a whole lot going on now and I'm back and stuff and I guess I'll do some more stuff this evening.
