Conversations
Aug. 17th, 2016 05:42 pmToday was a fed for free day. There was an it appreciation breakfast thingie so I got to put some things in me in the morning. Then there was a lunch meeting where we had some barbecue. I guess it wasn't a meeting so much as a training on kanban that even had a kanban boardgame. And during lunch movies were being discussed and then the trainer brought up Atlas Shrugged asking if anyone had seen the movie or read the book so I immediately said "unfortunately" and was prompted on a mini Ayn Rand rant. So that's always fun, I guess? Also more fun conversations in the day. There was another payment hub meeting so I was talking to Zach right before it. He was wearing a Mineral shirt so I said something (actually it was something else co-opting Mineral's cover of End Serenading but the reference is the main reason he said he has the shirt). Then he said he saw me driving the other day and saw my Moog sticker so there was a brief discussion of synth nerdiness. He said he recently got a mini MS-20 and we talked a little about how cool synths and modulars are. Hey! Then at the very end of the day, I asked Melissa where she stood now in the whole political thing as I knew she was a Bernie supporter before. This was just a little personal catch-up conversation between two coworkers who sit right near each other. We talked a little and she's basically on the same boat I am, not being hugely in love with Hillary but recognizing it's the best choice we have and other nuances like the importance of progressives in down ticket races. She said she doesn't much rally behind Hillary except when there's what is much of the negative "bullshit" about her from the right that's been building up for decades. We discussed her flaws, but she said she can't take the negative stuff when it's flat-out lies and has to step up against that and that most of what is said about her is "bullshit." At this point someone from the next row over overheard us and jumped in to basically say it's all true. Things were about to go downhill fast, luckily it was the very end of the day and time to go and I split!
