Last night Mary Beth and I walked over to Studio on the Square to see Indie Memphis's second Memphis in May installment: The Forbidden Room, Guy Maddin's latest movie! So I've been pretty excited about that 'cuz I like Brand upon the Brain! quite a lot. The movie was good. This time it's an attempt to "recreate" a bunch of these lost silent movies (with some parts actually "silent" (in regards to dialogue) and lot of it with actual talking). It was also digitally manipulated quite a bit (a deviation from a lot of what he's done in the past, only using methods of the silent film era). Anyway, it was good. A little sillier than the one I'd seen (not that it never got silly), but it was a good watch. Today at work I finished reading Complete Tales & Poems by Edgar Allan Poe. Overall it was okay. Some of it was really good, a lot of it was okay, and some of it was kinda bad. I liked his one novel quite a bit (though I wasn't into it at all for a good bit, it got interesting maybe halfway through and the ending is really good). I was not at all into his ur-detective stories. Anyway, I'd been thinking it'd take me like six months to get through it but I finished it in under three and a half so that was something.
