Horace was doing worse and worse, not eating anything at all yesterday. We'd felt our vet was missing something so asked around and got some recommendations and went with Grace Animal Hospital downtown. I called them today and they said I could come in. So I left work early at 2 to work from home later. I went home and picked him up and took him in. I'd had a lot of the paperwork from recent visits to give them the story. The doctor seemed pretty knowledgeable and "straight" (in the sense of straight-shooter, direct, whatever). He's certain Horace has renal failure. We can manage it and make him comfortable, but at some point it will get worse. There's no real treatment. He was again really dehydrated so he administered the solution they inject underneath his skin and showed me how to do it 'cuz I'll be doing it every day for him now. It seems kinda intimidating at first, but it's not too bad. Hopefully if he's feeling more hydrated and less nauseous he'll be able to eat more. The vet recommended just whatever he'll eat, most likely fishy and stinky. He also explained how the aluminum hyrdoxide (phosphorous medicine) works, that it binds or whatever to the food they're eating so if they're not eating anything it's not doing much work (aside from a little antacid effects). So yeah, it won't do anything until he eats again. Now it's just spend some quality time and look out for my little Meow Man.
