ateolf: (Robert points the bone at you)
The second debate watch party was last night up at Republic. So I spent a bunch of time running around getting shit set up. I'd mentioned the screen problems. When I got there, turns out someone had gone out and bought a screen (with the intention of returning it after we used it). Also the av dude I'd texted got back to me and he was able to bring one. Well, knowing how Republic is shaped weird with the bar splitting the area into two sections, I figured if we did get two screens going, it'd probably be for the best. So Josh had said he was coming and I asked if he could bring his projector. So we did end up with two projectors and two screens. Also Josh volunteered to go back to my place and pick up my keyboard amp so the second screen could actually have sound! So lots of running around setting up the two areas. And the damn place was packed! Felt like it was overcrowded even, so the two screens was a great idea 'cuz we wouldn't've been able to fit everyone in the main area and those in the smaller area would not have been able to see at all and not really hear either. So that last minute scrambling was worth it. The only hitch was we had two computers with their two separate streams of the event. If one glitched a little bit it would get behind. So for a good bit the two streams were off and it was kinda distracting with the sound. If I stopped and started it again, it'd reset so then the two would generally be only a little off (did this mostly during commercial breaks). At one point both streams just straight up stopped for a few seconds. This seemed bad at first, but then when they restarted they were perfectly in sync! Not even a little weird echo. That lasted probably at least half the debate, so I had a respite from the stress of making sure they weren't too terribly off. Towards the end they ended up drifting off again, but for the most part it all went pretty well. The debate itself was good. Nothing too surprising though, I guess. Bernie and O'Malley came on pretty hard against Hilary. Especially in the first half. Towards the end of that Hilary was actually seeming pretty pissed. The second half was more amicable (as it started hitting that bulk of issues that they're all pretty much on the same page with). There were a couple good no bs responses to a few of Hilary's statements. Like why it wasn't okay for Bernie to have evolved on the issue of gun control when she brushes off her evolving on other issues (especially the war in Iraq). The stuff about her conflicting interests in Wall Street. The twitter response calling her out for invoking 9/11 on a completely unrelated topic. Anyway, not too much else to say. You can probably already guess where I stand (as I have a Memphis for Bernie meeting in a couple hours and all that jazz). So I guess I'll leave off for now.
