Forever Ago
Jul. 27th, 2015 09:10 pmUgh! Too fucking long since I've posted! Will I remember all the crap since I last posted? Signs point to "no." Well, let's try anyway. It's been almost two weeks. Oh god. I don't remember at fucking all what happened two weeks ago! This will be hodge-podge. The new season of BoJack Horseman came out and we binged on it in a couple days. I had a goddamn birthday and now I'm 37 (god, I accidentally typed 27 just now...alas...) Turns out a coworker (Carrie) has the same birthday as me. They'd gotten up a birthday lunch at Huey's so I went as well as it was my special day too. Then Rena sneakily bought my lunch. Too much niceness. We went over to my parents' on Mary Beth's birthday. My parents got her a couple games (Jenga and Qwirkle, the latter which we played later and it was pretty rad, like Scrabble meets Uno in a weird way). They got me some clothes that are too big and make me look even fatter 'cuz they billow out (at least the one shirt I've worn so far). On Saturday I had some friends over for my birthday "party" (same as last year, electronic jam session). Ryan, Jacques, Dustin, and Josh all showed up. I made up word buckets. One bucket containing a few "parts" and the other one containing a shitload of "adjectives" (not sure why the latter is in quotes, guess for consistency's sake). It was a bunch of fun. We even played a little Concept after the pizza arrived (oh and Little Italy now has a barbecue pizza with barbecue from Central, how fuckin' awesome is that!?).
I never mentioned the reason I hadn't posted in so long! Gadzooks! A big reason is my computer is going to shit and pissing me the fuck off. It's like the windows settings file or something is corrupted. Nothing will pin to the taskbar or start menu anymore and a bunch of other junk won't stay saved. I guess it's not long for this world. When I get some money again I guess that should be a priorty, bluh. Also, stuff just coming up and being busy etc. But that's a main annoyance.
Let's catch up on movies. The Thursday before last I rented Mad Max in anticipation of the drive-in that weekend. The drive-in was fucking awesome. "Future Shock": Escape from New York was first. Now I remember that the time I watched it before I fell asleep so I'd never actually seen it all the way through! Crazy. I enjoyed it more this time. I guess being conscious for all of it helped. The Road Warrior was next, so now I've seen all the Mad Max movie (though it's been since I was a kid for Beyond Thunderdome). Rewatching Repo Man was great 'cuz this time I fucking loved it. I'd thought it was okay before, with some aspects that I liked a lot, but now I'm all on board. The Warriors was the weakest and, you know, it's pretty entertaing. Yesterday Mary Beth and I went to the Brooks to see Iris (the documentary about Iris Apfel and it was really good). This was some nice timing as my main birthday present from Mary Beth was membership (including movies) to the Brooks. Which is gonna be great 'cuz they've got a lot of awesome stuff coming up.
I'm sick with a damn cold for some fucking reason. It's goddamn summer. What's with this shit? Big deployment at work tomorrow. There's been this damn issue (a lot of it had to do with the database) that I finally got resolved this morning (pretty sure). It was giving me a headache. I worked on it some this weekend but thought the problem was happening on the database side (because the right information was leaving the webservice and there was incorrect stuff coming back in the end) but it was the webservice screwing shit up after it got back from the database. Boring shit. Sorry. It was just a pain in my ass. Also I was feeling sick and damned tired. Then there's this sql code I'm trying to read for research on another issue. Ugh. Not a very readable language when it comes to a whole file with functions and shit (versus nice little queries). Okay, enough code bullshit.
Last night we went to Murphy's to see Foxglove. Paul's out of town so Jacques was filling in on bass. This band from Austin played with them: Decider. They were pretty good. They weren't remarkable or anything, maybe it was just colored by how late and tired I was. They sounded a bit like Dinosaur Jr. (maybe through a somewhat shoegazier lens). They were pretty loud and rockin' and it's the kind of stuff that'd be fun to see when you're fully awake and in a rockin' mood.
I forgot to mention in my last post (so it's been fucking forever) that I finished reading Nightwood by Djuna Barnes (this was late at night two Thursdays ago, oh, three Thursdays ago, the 9th). It was okay I guess. The writing was a bit overwrought. I wasn't terribly into it. Anything else? Probably. But I won't remember that shit right now.
Oh! Sad news about Dieter Mœbius. Great talent that will be missed.
