Last night Mary Beth and I went on a bit of a walk around the neighborhood. Felt pretty pretty good. We also played Machi Koro (a newly acquired boardgame). It was fun, reminded me a lot of Splendor with some Dominion and even Catan. We had practice today (though Paul's out of town). Jacques finally did what he'd been talking about since forever, he brought out his midi guitar and sampler (going Disco Inferno). He'd come up with a part based on samples of cars passing. I came up with something on my eurorack modular. Had a few noisy droneish things, but the main part was played with a foot pedal (and okay, it reflects my having just seen Wolf Eyes and listening to 'em a whoel bunch recently). Jacques also brought over his drum pad and Ryan was playing the cheesy preset samples (some of which were cool, but we laughed at a lot of 'em) and some live drums to get a rhythm. So far it's sounding pretty damn cool (noisy, which is awesome). After practice Mary Beth and Jacques and I went to the Young Avenue Deli (hadn't been there in forever). I had a burger with pimento cheese and bacon and it was fucking great. What else? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that yesterday I watched The Match Factory Girl. It was good, a but of a surprise 'cuz, which it was very similar to the other Kaurismäki movies in the box, it didn't have any humor (the other two are very much deadpan comedies walking a tight line alongside the sadness), it was more just straight up drepressing, even tragic (whereas the sadness in his other movies is much more flat). Also, forgot to mention in my last post that, while I had thought we had watched all of Brooklyn 99's second season, it's apparently still happening 'cuz we found new episodes Friday night. Sweet.
