Okay, got a few days to catch up on. Let's see what I can remember. Was it Wednesday that we played a bunch of Dominion? I think that was the day we later went out and ate cheeseburgers at Tops (they were fuckin' awesome!). I should retry their barbecue. Hadn't had it probably since I was a kid. Anyway, those burgers. Looked at the river. Walked around the stinkin' mall. What was Thursday? Maybe that was Thursday and I'm getting mixed up. Then what else was there? I only remember that Thursday night we definitely finally watched Tristram Shandy: a Cock and Bull Story, that I mentioned having rented the other day. Well, before we watched it there was a whole production. We couldn't find the dvd remote. So while looking for it I grabbed the flashlight. It wouldn't turn on. I tried to change the batteries, but they were stuck. Finally figured out how to take both ends off and found the leaked battery acid gluing them in place. Hammered them out and cleaned it out. Anyway, in all that I had found the remote somewhere without needing a flashlight and in a place I had already looked before. Okay, so we finally watched it. It was pretty good. It took to the postmodern spirit of the book in a sense by somewhat being "behind the scenes" and with the actors in the movie as well. I must say it did its job best when sticking to the text of the book and jumping around with all that. Though the modern parts were good too and I laughed at a lot of 'em. It was, all in all, a good movie. I wouldn't say it comes close to equaling the book or anything crazy like that, but it didn't do it a disservice either.
Anyway, so then there's Friday. I had gotten a call from my parents that they needed me to watch Jason. My mom was going out of town and my dad had to work. Well, okay. Mary Beth and I had planned on going to Mud Island anyway and that's pretty kid friendly. We also wanted to see a movie but I figured we'd be fine going to the later showing. So I set the alarm and got up and exercised and went out and got him (making sure to change the upcoming cd rotation...The Body, Merzbow, and live SPK got pushed back in favor of Ramones, Devo, and video game music). Mud Island was cool. I hadn't been since I was a kid. If I go again I'll bring shoes I can slip off easily and wade in the river walk. Also, if Jason's not around rushing through everything I can take the time to read all the signs. He did enjoy looking and walking over the map of Memphis (me too!). I also stepped in a crack in the bricks and fell and skinned my knee. I advised Jason to be more careful than his careless uncle Robert. Oh yeah, and he wanted to ride the monorail over so we did (was planning on skipping that part, but I was secretly happy to relive that bit of nostalgia as well). Man, and I just love the "brutalist" architecture and everything about the feel of the place. Also hadn't planned on going in the museum but then Jason wanted to after walking the "river." But it was pretty neat in there even though I rushed through everything with him. Then back to the car where time on the meter was running out. The way over, we were the only people in the car and didn't have to wait. Coming back it was full and we had to wait an inexplicably long time. We didn't make it back to the car in time, but I was okay and they weren't being that diligent. Back at our place Jason and I played Super Mario 3D World on the Wii-U. Then it was time to take him back to my parents'. There I was met by Anthony who wanted to continually attack me with foam Minecraft swords and pickaxes. So I played with him and Jason and was killed a whole lot.
Okay, back home Mary Beth and I went to the theater to see Boyhood, but I was kinda shocked to find it was sold out. So that plan was dashed. We ended up going to Boscos where the guy who's always there complimented my Unwound shirt. Otherwise it was a pretty rough evening. Yesterday we had ordered our tickets in advance for the afternoon screening. We got there a little early and still had trouble finding seats. The theater was packed. It is only playing in one theater in town, but still. Usually that's a sign that the theater will be virtually empty. We couldn't really sit next to each other. The closest we got was technically next to each other in the same row, but it's a row made for wheelchairs, I guess, with a lot of empty space between us. Still, we could look over at each other at moments. I wasn't sure if I'd like it 'cuz I haven't always liked his movies (often not, I guess, though I did like Slackers). But I ended up liking this one a lot (there was only one moment I disliked, Mary Beth agreed, when the Mexican worker thanks the mom later for suggesting he go to school, that was a little stupid). After the movie we went and ate at Soul Fish and it was good. Then we wrapped up at Republic. Now it's Sunday and I've done my exercises again and I guess that's about it.
