Mary Beth and I went to the Hi Tone last night to see the Richard Buckner show. Felt a little bad 'cuz we got there a little late and towards the end of the opening act's set. I guess the kind of thing you'd expect before Richard Buckner, two guys with acoustic guitars, singer-songwriter-y. What I heard was pretty good. After we came in they said something directed to us about coming in late and guess that's why they're the opener. To be fair, Mary Beth's been sick of coming to shows that don't start on time and sitting around waiting. She's also the Richard Buckner fan, I hadn't heard a whole lot of his stuff before just songs here and there (some I think I didn't like, some I think I did). I thought his set was good. Also felt bad because almost nobody was at this show. Maybe ten people including us and not including anyone who had to be there. He mostly played guitar, though on one song he played an omnichord. Oh yeah, and the opening guy had a song about college basketball that was Memphis-related (just announced as #93 in a list of songs about Memphis?) and he referred to the team as the "Memphis State Tigers." Was this about a really old game? Maybe I should investigate. The guy didn't seem that old, probably younger than me. Anyway, I was supposed to do intervals this morning but I think my shoulder could use another day of rest. I don't wanna get an injury.
