Mary Beth and I went to the new Dalí exhibit at the Brooks yesterday. It was pretty interesting because it wasn't his usual works that were there. Mostly it was illustrations done for books (Don Quixote, Alice and Wonderland, and a Hans Christian Anderson collection). There was also a series of food-related works. The illustrations had lots of streaks and splotches of pain in an expressionistic style pretty different from his realistic tendencies. So it was a pretty interesting collection all-in-all. There was also a competition of Mid-South students (middle, high) and there was some good stuff from the kids in that exhibit, it was fun going around looking at it all. And then I stumbled upon their Vogel collection exhibit. There was some really awesome stuff in there and I didn't even realize it was at the museum. And while Mary Beth was staying behind to look at every truism in the Jenny Holzer piece, elsewhere in the museum, I heard some rednecky guy ranting angrily about that very piece to his family. We ended up meeting my dad at Huey's a little later on. Nothing else too much. I'm cherishing this three day weekend.
