Wrapping Things Up
Jan. 5th, 2014 02:05 pmPractice was kinda weird yesterday. Jacques showed up. Paul showed up but had to leave almost immediately because of some phone call he got. Ryan took super-forever to get there. First, Jacques recorded an extra guitar part on "The Provincial." We wanted to do this drum thing where everyone played drums in a polyrhythm sort of thing at the end of "Battle Chant." Since Paul wasn't there he couldn't be part of it. Ryan was so late we almost just went ahead and did it the two of us without him. Jacques and I each worked out a part, him on three floor toms and me on two smaller toms and a "tenor drum." It was pretty sweet, Jacques was in 4/4 and it was in 7/4. Then Ryan showed up shortly before we were gonna record it as time was running out. So he worked out something in 3/4 on the roto-toms. It took some work to get it recorded 'cuz there's only one person who could be on the headphones and the rhythm track isn't steady on the song. So on the first attempt we got off-beat pretty quick. I ended up having to record a steady drum hit along with it to record to. Which annoyed me 'cuz after hitting a tom over and over for six minutes, the first time it just didn't record for no reason. Then after I finally got it down we were just out of time, but we went ahead and recorded a take anyway and it was mostly pretty good. Keep-able. Towards the end someone got off but it's okay. A cacophanous element kinda works well right there. Ryan left after we got it recorded. Then we recorded Jacques playing melodica at the end of "Histrionics." Took a few tries and rooms to find a good sound. Then Mary Beth and I went to Huey's with Jacques and it was good. Then we came back home and introduced Jacques to Ticket to Ride. It was fun, except Mary Beth ended the game THE round before I was gonna pull off my last move (which I think would have had me winning the game too). I had all the cards ready to go. Oh well. So she won. I guess I had my win the night before. And hanging out listening to Pandora. We just got back from the grocery store in the rain. Exciting stuff.
