First Day

Pretty good first day of school today. Woke up early. Damn early. 4:50. I'll probably settle into a 5 am wakeup for the year, but wanted to give myself extra time the first day just in case. And it was good too because I had some extra things to do in the morning making sure I had everything I needed to take. We started off in the auditorium. Senior homerooms went first (and I have a senior homeroom). We were in homeroom a little while, but not as long as I was expecting (all morning). So I was a little surprised when we went to class. We were in the first four periods pretty short. The latter three were much longer, closer to regular classtime. I kind've improvised with whatever. Getting around to my classes wasn't too bad today. There weren't too many kids in most of my classes today. The Bridge Math seems a little different than I first expected. I thought the kids would take it concurrent with Algebra I, but it doesn't seem like any are enrolled in that. So I'm guessing they take Bridge this year and the real Algebra next year. I laminated some poster boards after school so I can have some portable dry erase boards. Exciting stuff, I know. I think I'm having a good time with the kids so far. I know it's super early. Floating makes the school feel completely different. And it's not bad yet or anything. One class seems to be relatively full of "firecrackers." I actually think I did pretty good with a little management. One girl was grumbling when I asked her to sit up closer and I said something (I forget what, not much, "excuse me" maybe), but my tone was sharp and definitive (moreso than I was even expecting) and she stopped and the room went dead quiet and even half-gasped. Hopefully I can keep that up. Anyway, I guess I'm looking forward to tomorrow now!
