Jacques came over with some dvds and we celebrated our nation's independence with an Alien movie marathon. We watched the first three. Nice as it'd been so long since I'd seen the second and third ones that I didn't remember them so well. I know I saw them much close to their release dates than our present date (not so for the first one, I first saw that a relative few years ago). The first one, of course, held up. The next two were incrementally less favorable. We watched the extended version of the third and it seems like they did a messy job of it. Not sure how much of a difference it would have made. It could have been good. Unlike many people, I do like they killed off the girl and the guy at the beginning. I like the bleak tone. I like the pacing and the way it should have a creepy/less actiony vibe. The cinematography is awful and the overall effect makes it just kinda boring (whereas the first has really good cinematography and its slowness makes it genuinely creepy with a pervasive sense of dread). Anyway, enough analysis of Alien 3. Also, our ac went out AGAIN yesterday. So now it's hot as fucking fuck in here. Hoorah.
