ateolf: (The Metamorphosis)
School let out early today 'cuz of snow. First two classes (four periods) and then my planning period as well and the last two classes were dismissed. Let out at 12:30. The snow wasn't even bad or nothin' but I'm not complaining. It's nice to be home now.

I got a package on Saturday. Once again I participated in the LibraryThing secret santa exchange. They went with a different store this year and everything ended up being shipped from England. Because of stupid security crap and bad weather there were huge delays, which is why I finally just got it this weekend: The Complete Stories by Franz Kafka, The Third Policeman by Flann O'Brien, and Diary of a Madman and Other Stories by Nikolai Gogol. Some good books. . . unfortunately I already have ALL of them! Now, with a secret santa exchange, who's to know what someone already has or doesn't have? Well, seeing is how this is through the website where every fucking book I own is listed and easily searchable. The lazy, stupid motherfucker who was my santa didn't even bother to fucking check if I had these books before picking out a whole group of shit I've already got. Needless to say my day was put into a bit of a turd-twister. Technically, I guess I don't have the latter book. I have The Collected Tales of Nikolai Gogol which merely contains the three stories in the collection I got. That one's not the end of the world were it not for the fact that the other two are EXACTLY the same fucking books I already have. Anyway, I could keep ranting about this for a while so I'll shut up.

I downloaded a few new games for the Wii: Art Style: Light Trax, Bit Trip Runner, and Cave Story. All of these games are awesome. I guess I just have a neo-retro fixation. Saturday evening Mary Beth and I completed watching The Wire series. Sunday we went to a Super Bowl party. Didn't really watch the game much, just hung out. It was at this dude from the Electrical forum (Devin)'s house. We'd never met him before. It's a little weird 'cuz they're pretty durn rich and live downtown in this huge house (not so much in area as in height with three stories). They were having people from the UofM marching band playing the halftime show and they couldn't take the drumset away from the school so I'd let them borrow mine. Jacques came by and helped me deliver 'em. The party was fun, Devin and his wife are nice. They had a whole ton of Mexican food as well as Mexican beverages (Coke/Tamarindo) which pleased me immensely. Oh, and we had a late Christmas exchange with Jacques and Amber. I got: How to Wreck a Nice Beach: the Vocoder from World War II to Hip-Hop by Dave Tompkins, 2001: a Space Odyssey by Peter Krämer (a critical essay of the film), and Analog Days: the Invention and Impact of the Moog Synthesizer by Trevor Pinch and Frank Trocco (horray for awesome books I don't ALREADY HAVE!!!) Anyway, I guess that's about it.
