ateolf: (Knoxville Boi)
more of the same yesterday (in terms of the in-service and accessing the stuff online...actually, i think i was able to get in yesterday but i don't have a password yet...) we still have to do it but we have over a month to get it done now...after work i had to go to this new teacher seminar thingie...they gave everyone this book: The Skillful Teacher by Jon Saphier, Mary Ann Haley-Speca, and Robert Gower...and they had these drawings and i actually won something! something awesome!: a $25 prepaid American Express card! sweet! also, walking by the teacher i mentioned in my last post's room and heard some more good music yesterday (VU/Stooges, though he apparently was listening to a Brian Jonestown Massascre station on Pandora...) didn't talk to him too much, as he was getting all his stuff ready and i didn't wanna be too obnoxious...though a friend of mine, when i mentioned that i was teaching at Melrose, said i should talk to [insert his name] if i hadn't already as he's a cool dude, and it was later in the day after i had talked to him the first time so i was like, oh yeah...and he was apparently in The Gun Club briefly in the 80's...a band i've never actually heard, but i'm sure are a big deal to some people...also i got some major help with lesson planning yesterday from my department head...then today, towards the end of the day actually, i got a huge relief! they redid the schedules and i'm no longer teaching geometry! only algebra...this, of course, cuts my lesson planning approximately in half which eases my mind immensely...also it'll help me focus and stay locked into the one subject...so that was very good news...i had gotten a little excited about some possibilites for future gemoetry lessons (like these awesome videos i recently saw), but the pros outweigh the cons by a few tons...one little negative thing: they'd apparently misprinted the homeroom teacher schedule and i'd thought i wouldn't be heading a homeroom and having another teacher in my classroom doing it, but that's apparently wrong and i will...and there's all this crap we're supposed to do in those ten minutes on monday and i'm a bit unsure about it all...i get the feeling monday is going to be a bit of a confusing clusterfuck anyway (apparently less than half of the students who are expected to be attending actually registered at the proper time this week so students are gonna be showing up and registering on the first day of class...) on the plus side, i did finally get access to my main computer and the computer i was using temporarily is on the cart with the projector and that's working so that's pretty neat...oh, and it turns out that trip to Knowledge Tree was a big mistake...i returned the stuff after work today...what else? i got a little 2 gb usb flash drive yesterday, fun stuff...and this evening Mary Beth and i went to Target and i got some supplies, but mainly i got a new, bigger bag (i quickly saw, when i got my books, that my current messenger bag wsa not gonna be big enough...) whew, anyway, i have a lot of fuckin' work to do this weekend...
