ateolf: (i ♥ George)
finished reading If I Die in a Combat Zone by Tim O'Brien at work today...i'd gotten it as a present for my dad last christmas (well, not the christmas that just happened but the other last christmas) and now that i've read it myself i must say it wasn't a good present for him...yes, it is more straightforward than his other books, but not in the way i'd hoped (as far as my reasoning for giving it to my dad) it's more of a personal account and somewhat opinionated (still not preachy or anything) but seeing as how he refers to himself as "liberal" towards the beginning that's enough there (to make it a bad idea as a gift for my dad...) oh well, and of course all that's the superficial aspect of the book, but uh, anyway...it was good for me...i guess if i ever decide to get a book for my dad as a present it'll be one i've read first and not rely on assumptions or nothing (although the other books of his i'd read wouldn't have been good presents for other reasons...literary and not "political"...) oh well...i even feel somewhat embarassed, like he probably thinks i was trying to "teach" him something...ah well...anyway, i'm ranting somewhat incoherently so i'll stop now...
