Radiohead...and more!
Aug. 26th, 2003 08:28 pm...catching up...
saturday night: went over to Jacques and Amber's...after a little while we were accompanied by Brad, Keith, Jamie, Marisa, Jason, and Amanda...we all went to eat at El Mezcal and Ben showed up...after that we cruised on over to Yosemite Sam's for karaoke...it seemed okay at first 'cuz there weren't many people there...but then we realized that the stupid cunt running the thing did not have any order at all to when anyone sang...some people went at least 3 times between my gos...but i did sing "Hammer to Fall" and "Piece of My Heart"...quite a few others were there too...there was some hanging out afterwards but i had to cut short 'cuz of the leaving for the trip in the morning...i still only got 4 hours of sleep...
Keith picked me up in the morning and we went to get the rental car...we were headed for St. Louis by 11:30am behind the wheel of a Grand Am...when we got to St. Louis, of course we went straight to Vintage Vinyl...i got one dvd
John Coltrane (on Ralph Gleason's Jazz Casual)
and a few cds:
Boredoms: Super Roots 6
The Fall: The Unutterable
Kevin Ayers-John Cale-Eno-Nico: June 1, 1974
Martin Rev: s/t
Orchestral Manœuvres in the Dark: Architecture & Morality
Big Black: The Hammer Party
Savage Republic: Recordings from Liver Performance, 1981-1983
Stevie Wonder: Innervisions
Laibach: s/t
then after a little while off to middle of nowhere where the show was being held...
the opening act was Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks...dear sweet lord they were fucking atrocious!!! but anyway, i had to be a sucker and wait in line for 20 min to get ripped off and buy some merchandise...but i got a poster, a set of 12 buttons and a black shirt that proclaims in a gothic, beige font
Hungry?
Sick?
Begging for a break?
Sweet?
Fresh?
Strung up by the wrists?
We Suck
Young
Blood
at any rate, i think it fucking rules...the show was very good...the worst thing about it was the fact that we were sitting in front of the most obnoxious fucking people that have ever lived...fucking frat boys that would not stop shouting the whole show...(one of them was wearing a fucking Rage against the Machien shirt, for chrissakes!) and the guy sitting directly behind me was the wosrt...at one point he felt he had to stand up on the seats so he fucking put his hand on my shoulder for leverage getting up...what the fuck is that!? before the show, he asked me about my Mission of Burma shirt...they also felt the need to sing along really loudly, usually off-time...the worst was during "The National Anthem"...during "Everything in Its Right Place" the whole fucking place was clapping along...the guys behind us felt the need to go even further by banging the seats...also off-beat...but crowd aside, Radiohead was fucking great...while we were a step ahead of the people who had to sit in the lawn, we were still pretty far away (and all the way over to the side) so that kind of sucked, but it could have been worse so i won't complain...errr...too much anyway...one amusing thing, i thinkThom Yorke, when thanking them, referred to the openers as "Stephen Malkmus and the Dicks"...it's possible i heard wrong, but it sounded like that...
we got out of the arena really quickly...so we had to wait for Andy (of The Potomac Accord, who we stayed with) for a while outside his house before he got back...we noticed the street he lives on is next to Potomac St., and Keith noticed that his car is a Honda (and he was almost sure it was an Accord)...funny, as our last trip to St. Louis, upon passing the exit for Potomac St., we joked about them getting their band name 'cuz they lived there and drove an Accord, or at least lived near someone who drove one and parked it on the street...is it all coincidence? perhaps...but perhaps...NOT! it's also kind of scary how neat his house is...but other than that not much to say...
we headed back in the morning...we got back to Memphis before 4pm...then the fucking rental car place was trying to charge me twice as much as i was lead to believe i'd have to pay...they brought up a "24 hour day" policy thing though nothing of that was ever mentioned to me the day before when i got the car...i just told them i'd be back "tomorrow" and the guy quoted a price...the end...no mention in the slightest of "be back by this time" or anything...so i argued and the guy there settled for holding off on the charges until i call back when the guy i got the car from is back to work (tomorrow morning)...
anyway...Keith and i went over to Shade/Tish's...ended up eating dinner at MPC (yes, i've sworn to never eat there...but i guess their sandwhiches won't explode my colon...then again, i did take 3 dumps at work today...) with Tish, Jason, and Amanda...Tish went home and the rest of us rented a movie (uh, it was Cronenberg's first...i forget the title...noat a very good movie anyway...) and watched it at Jason/Amanda's apartment...well, we sat around looking at gay and fat chick porn first...Amanda also "buffed my nails"...they're so smooth and glassy...it's almost scary...
so today was my first day of work outside of training...it was pretty aight...that cute girl that i was talking about before sat next to me...well, either that or i got there while she was on break and i just happened to sit next to where she had been sitting...she did leave earlier than me so that would lend evidence towards that theory...but she also could have just had an appointment she had to leave work early for...i don't know, it doesn't seem like i saw anything in that seat before i got there...but i think about shit too much...i didn't sit next to her long anyway 'cuz the computer i was sitting at messed up after a little while and i had to move elsewhere...i don't know...she's so cute though...and i'm so pathetic...oooh yeah...
oh yea...and my parents are going out of town tomorrow 'til saturday...WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! SPRING BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!
