so yea...the show was tonight...one year and one day since the last one...also, our first show as 5-piece...but before i get to all that, i'll start from the beginning...yea...before the show we practiced...we went through the set as usual and it really just sounded fucking amazing...the best we'd ever played overall...we were fuckin' excited and in shock that we sounded so good...then we had our traditional eatin' at Huey's in Collierville...well, we did it at the first show anyway...then back to my house where we went through two of the songs again ("Uncurable" and "A Better Way of Failing") and they still sounded great...Justin came over and helped haul gear to/from the show...he gets the nomination for new best-person-ever...
The Loft is pretty small, but it's not like we were drawing a huge crowd or anything...the other two bands had a bunch of friends traveling with them which was pretty cool...uh, extra people to see us...the first was The South who were quite good...hardcore with some math rock leanings...between the sets there was someone travelling with them that did a puppet show..."The Pirate and the Viking"...it was a little on the silly side, but pretty amusing nonetheless...i mean, pirates are pretty funny as a general rule...then it was Operation Latte Thunder...i didn't think they were as good as the first band...more straight ahead hardcore...there were 6 people in the band...drums, bass, two guitarists, and two guys who just did vocals (i.e. screamed)...
first i'd like to thank those of ya'll here who showed up...of course, Amber, Shawna, Kerry, and Tracy (the girlfriends...let's see that's 4 girls to the 5 dudes...i'll give you all one guess as to who the girlfriendless loser is...hoo-ah!) Adam was there too with some friends from work...that is if they didn't leave while we were still playing, which i suspect they did...
even though it means nothing to anyone reading this (aside from band members) here's the setlist:
Taken
Uncurable
A Better Way of Failing
Now It's Dark

as i sing on "Taken" i had the mic at the start so i introduced us by saying something along the lines as having some prepared stage banter that i had been up all night practicing and then "we're The Family Ghost...i hope everyone's wearing diapers" and even though that's the funniest thing ever, nobody laughed...except Keith who made up for it all by bursting out really loud...so all was not lost...and when Keith introduced "Uncurable" he dedicated it to Shade and said something about him helping write the song...but then we see Shade isn't even in the fucking room anymore...THAT'S nice...but we played really damned well...along with today's practice as some of the best we've ever played our stuff...i don't know how well the crowd liked it or anything...i think the majority (not that there was a huge crowd or anything) were indifferent, but after a couple songs there was like one or two people, i think from one of the other bands, clapping very emphatically...so i guess a couple were sufficiently rocked...of course, everyone we know said it was good, but you can't really trust THEM... ...THAT'S RIGHT! i'm trying to think of other stuff about it..."Taken" was earth-shatteringly great...my ballz were stomped beyond repair...i messed up two fills in my "Placeholder" drumming, but i think maybe only one was noticed...uh, at least a couple people said they only noticed one...maybe everyone else didn't notice any...uh...yea...but i'm really happy about the show...even if nobody likes what we're doing, we're getting what we're doing down...and *we* like what we're doing so the rest don't matter shit, yo!
then we dropped shit back at my house...it's sitting downstairs now...i guess i'm gonna wait 'til my dad wakes up and carry it all up here by myself...but after that i dropped Brad home and met Jacques/Amber and Paul/Shawna...we went and ate at the Mancake shop...and now i've journeyed back home...i's sleepy...but hopefully my dad will be up soon...well i think i've mentioned everything i meant to...sweet rock'n'roll dreams to all...
