practice didn't happen today...couldn't get in touch w/ Brad...hopefully i can soon...i've been wanting to talk to him about some other stuff too...for the next two days i have NO school and NO work...which is sweet as fucking hell...i don't know if Brad's working or not, but even if so, i think it's planned that the rest of us will get together to work on something...i'd love it to death if Brad can make it too, we'll see...i'm closing all next weekend again...oh well...ummm...the money will be super-nice...i made a decent sum again tonight...story for the night: towards the end (12-12:30 or so) i was driving down Barksdale and for a split second before i heard the thud, i saw a small flash of white right in front of me...it looked as if it had hopped in front of my car...and i could swear it looked like a rabbit...but i thought it had to have been a dog or cat or maybe a racoon or something...i looked back in my rear-view and there was nothing lying in the road...maybe some debris had blown across the road? but i saw what looked like something flopping off to the side...for a second it looked like some paper blowing up onto the curb...but i saw the same motion happen again...this was some feet behind me so i continued around the corner to the house i was delivering to...after that i went back to where i had hit whatever it was and stopped...i looked to the side of the road and sure enough, it was a rabbit...it was still alive...just sitting there motionless...it didn't look horribly mangled, but i thought i saw blood (or other internal parts) on the corner of its mouth...it looked like there could have been a small puddle of blood in the middle of the street but it's hard to tell...though now that i think about it, it almost has to be...i wish i could have done something...but i didn't know what i could do...and i don't think there's anything at all i could have done anyway...i continued on...after i got off work, i went back over there...i dunno...to see if it had been okay or something...as i suspected, it was dead by then...not longer sitting up but lying down in the gutter alongside the road...the flopping i had seen in my mirror earlier, i'm sure now was the rabbit trying to get away after being smacked by a several ton object moving 40 mph or so and not even being able to make it up onto the small curb...i wish it had died on impact...there's no telling how long it sat there, unable to move, before it died...and i know i didn't "run over" it...it didn't go underneath the tires...it was in mid-hop and hit the front of the car...which i know has to be far worse...(i saw a kitten go underneath a tire once and, aside from the shock, came away unscathed...) i got out of the car and paid my respects..."i'm sorry, little guy" i said to the inanimate creature that looked as if its neck may have been torn open...when i got home (just a little while ago) i gave my doggies a large dose of attention...i'm sure the rabbit was someone's pet...i can't even begin to imagine that happening to my dogs...(or i just don't want to...)
