Mary Beth and I did a neighborhood walk after work. As we're walking down Washington, Charlie starts towards us from across the street and the just stops in the middle of the street sitting there. And right then a jeep started coming down the road and Charlie just did not move. The jeep driver had to slowly make an arc around Charlie and then stopped next to him and I think said something, probably admonishing or like, jesus cat what the hell are you doing!? O, Charlie! Then after the jeep had gone he walked over to us but we were too horrified to give him any attention. We're not rewarding THAT behavior, little man!

That sort of reminds me of a completely unrelated story from a couple of weeks or so ago. Mary Beth and I were eating dinner out on the back deck and we notice two squirrels chasing each other in the lower branches of a tree at the edge of the lot. These were the more small and flimsy kind of branches. They're not right close to the ground but not super high up either. Higher than a human...maybe eight feet? (Maybe a little more?) Anyway, something I'd never seen before happened and one of the squirrels just falls off the branch to the ground. And while falling it gave out this tiny squirrel shriek. In isolation, the sound might have been kind of funny if it wasn't so horrifying. The other squirrel went racing down to the ground. Then I shortly saw both squirrels running and continuing to chase each other, emerging out from behind the cars over there. They even continued back up and chased each other recklessly across the power line. At least it ended alright, though it was pretty surreal.
