The bandcamp article did drop a little bit after my post yesterday morning! So it talks about Memphis Concrète and so much music by my friends. Here's the link:
Bandcamp article: The Experimental Edge of the “New Weird South”
It's a good read though it took me a while to actually read through it because I got nervous seeing myself quoted right off the bat. And I'll address a few minor factual corrections (just for posterity right here): I first went to Big Ears in 2017, not 2016 (and this was after planning for the first Memphis Concrète was well under way; though I did first HEAR about Big Ears in 2016, although when it was too late to plan a trip or whatever, and that probably helped cement the idea of going ahead with MC); Moor Mother did not headline 2019 because she cancelled the morning of the show (so she was SUPPOSED to headline and it was far too last minute to correct any promotional materials); Optic Sink did not play the last two years, they were scheduled to play 2018 but Natalie had an illness in the family and had to cancel (though not quite so last minute) and did end up coming back to play 2019. But that's just for my own anal bookkeeping purposes. Everyone I talked to thought it was a really good read, so nice!
In other news, I got another bandcamp Friday shipment in the mail yesterday: Giacinto Scelsi: The Violin Works, Morton Subotnick: The Electronic Works 3, and Karlheinz Stockhausen: Kurzwellen. Mary Beth and I did our big grocery hall yesterday after work. Then we passed out pretty early. And there you have it. It's Friday and I'm off yet again!
