Had a pretty exciting day at work, relatively speaking. Hackathon finalists were announced and my team is one of the top 5! I'm sure that means we get something, but there's still a final presentation to the executive committee to pick the big winner (final round!). There may even be talk of expanding it and actually connecting to a Terminix scheduling service. Pretty cool. Okay, also was privy to some conversations about what my new team will be doing. Getting some meeting set up starting next week. We'll pretty much be taking charge of anything having to do with communication. And right now everyone's out there doing whatever they want. So it might be a little chaotic at first, but we'll be trying to tie it all into a more standardized api/process. There's like four or five applications or things involved and most of 'em I've never heard of, but two I have. And one of 'em is the survey application that Stephen's team worked on, all on aws (so you can say "lambda functions" instead of just "code") and mostly in node.js. That's really exciting. Our messaging stuff was calling them and they were calling us so I have some experience brushing against it all externally. But it'll be pretty awesome taking over that from the inside. I'll also be charged with keeping my feelers out and determining what skills will be required (so far I know I can say .net and node.js/javascript). It's going to be funny 'cuz I'll be in charge of figuring out the "requirements" for new team members when I haven't professionally worked on any of it before. Hahaha. I feel I'm going to get some .net exposure pretty soon and at least I have developed a website that's out there that uses node.js (even though it's small), also the part of the hackathon I worked on was node.js on aws. Okay, enough goddamn jargon. Who knows what all the other stuff I'll be finding out about will entail. But it should be pretty exciting. And I've got the better part of two months to acquaint myself with a lot of this stuff. I'm actually a little giddy about it. Okay, enough nerd shit.

I forgot to mention that yesterday I got a couple soldering iron tips in the mail! And we now have a winner! They actually fit into Josh's soldering iron! Now I can finish the damn project and quit hogging his tools (and actually return the whole thing). Anyway, after how hard it was to track down I was starting to get discouraged so I'm glad I found something.
