it looks like i'm actually gonna be a teacher...i got a call from Melrose earlier today and went up there shortly afterwards and signed some paperwork...i guess it's not official-oifficial but the principal was like "see ya monday at 8 am" or something of the sort...and his talk was pretty unambiguously you're our new math teacher...i was not expecting that at all, as i hinted at earlier...he actually said he'd call about it yesterday...so then i was like, yeah, of course i didn't get it...so his call today hit me out of the blue...i had mentally reverted to being sure i wouldn't get hired and was in plan b mode...and it's so soon! teacher in service starts in less than a week and then class starts a week after that...so there's the fact that it's so soon and i'm completely unready that has me a bit freaked out...but after the initial freakout and dread or whatever has started to fade i've been increasingly more excited...however you approach it, it's pretty crazy...if it all works out as it looks like it will, i will be teaching 9th grade algebra I...hopefully i'll get the hang of the whole discipline thing...but anyway, wow, i guess it's all gotta sink in...

congratulations on the job! you should try to get with the other algebra I teachers and follow their plans- that way you can get the hang of the discipline thing without having to also worry about lesson planning. My husband taught that class for two years, actually, and loved it.

thank you, yes i do plan on getting ideas from other teachers and stuff about lesson plans, etc...and yeah, hopefully it'll be fun subject to teach...i mean, academically or whatever, it's mostly stuff i could do in my sleep (i'm sure there are parts i'm rusty at, but as a whole it's more basic and ingrained into me than some of the other subjects...) the challenge is if i'll be able to actually lure the students into enjoying the material as well...but i'm hopefully up to the challenge!

Yay! Also, how is "See ya Monday at 8 am" not official-official?

p.s. I hope you keep posting and tell us about crazy things your students do/say. Highschoolers are funny :D

yeah, well, i filled out the recommendation to teach form and then hr has to approve it or whatever...i don't see why they wouldn't, but you never know...and i don't think i'm showing up yet in the system as having been hired...i know i pretty much am it's just bureaucratic stuff, but i like keeping an open, paranoid outlook until it is official-official...
