It's Halloween

went to see Ryan's band play last night...note to self: NEVER play a show at Neil's under any circumstances whatsoever...they had to split their set into two parts and during the interim the sound guy's just blasting louder-than-the-band, incongruous, bumpin' booty-house-rap...followed by a constume contest...which could be forgivable seeing it was halloween and all (although odd in the midst of a band's sets) but they were saying contests are a regular thing up at Neil's on fridays and later there was "the popular" hula-hoop contest (we didn't stick around for this)...and throughout Neil (i think) is up there mc'ing like a jackass...the whole thing reeked of trying to put on some sort of frat party production...it was pretty sad and embarassing...the first band was Funeral Walkaway Parade who i hadn't heard and were okay...they'd have been much better had the singer not done this overbering vibrato goat voice half the time he sang...there were good aspects to their music but on the whole i was kinda unmoved...once again i had costume failure...we tried adjusting it but still i couldn't wear it for more than a few minutes before being bothered by it and taking it off...

it was pretty retarded...when we did our cd release show we were self indulgent and played a show without any other bands and we played two sets with our friend djing before and in between...but they were two full sets and he was our friend playing good music that had SOMETHING to do with the music we play...and a cd release show is kinda like a birthday part or something for a band...or so my brain seems to tell me right now, sounds like a good analogy to me though...and the mood was closer to an informal birthday party than a fucking frat party...then again on the whole i have nothing to do with that sort of thing whatsoever and anything frat-related is completely alien to me...still, my point, it was pretty retarded...
